The term “doping”
Basically, the expression “doping“ was first mentioned in an English dictionary in 1889. Back then, it was described as a mixed remedy for the purpose of enhancing the performance of racehorses. In the first place though, doping was made from remnants of grapes. It was used for various rituals or fights. Even Olympic athletes (over 2,000 years ago), were already using drugs/remedies like bulls’ blood, bull testicles and more, in order to optimize their achievements. All in all, “doping” can be associated with the meaning of utilization of illegal substances with stimulating properties in order to reinforce the athlete’s performance. Doping was initially illegalized in 1967.
